Janice E. Holliman's story starts, like many good stories do, with a wedding. She married with the kind of hope that doesn't yet know what it will be asked to carry. Four years in, that hope was tested: a diagnosis of Crohn's disease arrived, and with it, a cascade of complications — blood clots, an enlarged heart, and diabetes.

Surgery followed, and with it, a question Janice couldn't avoid: who are you, when illness takes the parts of your life you thought defined you? She had to find an answer while still living inside the question — and then, without warning, she also survived the loss of her own home.
